The renewables market grows daily; as does Fairhurst’s role as a leading designer of wind farm infrastructure.
Fairhurst has a wealth of experience in the identification, development, design and construction of wind farm infrastructure across the UK, producing designs for farm owners such as Scottish & Southern Energy, Greenpower, Scottish Power and npower renewables.
From providing planning advice in Northumberland to turbine base designs in south east Sutherland, Fairhurst has provided civil, structural, geotechnical, hydrological, environmental and planning services on over 18 wind farms.
We provide a unique one-stop-shop dealing with all engineering aspects from of wind farm delivery. Fairhurst delivers unrivalled practical experience in planning support, geotechnical and hydrological investigations, conceptual layouts and feasibility studies, detailed design of access infrastructure (typically tracks, structures, buildings and drainage), turbine base design and site supervision. Whether in the UK or overseas, each service offering is specifically tailored to your needs and the individual nature of the site.
Feasibility: Whether direct to the wind farm developer or as part of a design and build service, Fairhurst has the skills and experience to assist in the evaluation of a potential wind farm site and to advise on the major issues which would influence development costs including access feasibility and turbine base design.
Planning: Fairhurst has experience of being project manager for planning and technical engineering advice for inclusion in the Planning Application and Environmental Statement (ES), for the development of new as well as the upgrading and repowering of existing Wind Farms. This includes a landmark turbine at 163m in height which is to be the largest land based turbine in Europe. Fairhurst also provides advice to Local Authorities for wind turbines at school sites.
Design: Our latest appointment sees Fairhurst provide detailed design services to Scottish and Southern Energy Renewables (SSER) on Clyde Wind Farm. The site will host 152 Siemens 2.3MW 78.3m hub height turbines over 4700 hectares which together will make it one of the largest on-shore wind farm in Europe. Initially involved through a design and build contract, and now providing consultancy services direct to SSER, Fairhurst currently provides civil, structural, building, drainage, geotechnical and environmental design and supervision services on this challenging site.
