Planning & Development

The Development Planning Team is responsible for all aspects of town planning advice including preparing development appraisals, development briefs, preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals, review of existing permissions and conditions, planning strategies and studies, policy review and preparation, planning due diligence, provision of expert witness services, development plan monitoring and representation, formulation of planning policy, and public consultation.

The Team has a range of clients throughout the UK and supports all other offices in the Partnership. The Development Planning Team advises developers, landowners, business operators and public sector bodies on the statutory planning system. Our Team also have close links with local Universities which allows the team to continually familiarise themselves with fresh approaches to planning.

We provide professional planning advice, ranging from the formulation of planning policy for Glasgow City Council to securing planning permission for residential schemes on behalf of Grainger PLC, the UK’s largest listed specialist residential landlord. Fairhurst advises Clients on all stages of the planning process. Due to the Firm’s multi‐disciplinary nature, the Development Planning Team can call upon other disciplines to assist in providing accompanying assessments and detailed design advice for a range of development proposals, including flood risk assessments, transportation, and contaminated land studies.
