This project comprised the construction of 36 rock anchored reinforced bases for 0.6MW wind turbines manufactured by Nordtank A/S of Denmark. Fairhurst provided civil, structural and geotechnical engineering consultancy services during the design and construction of the wind farm, which is located in the hills above Carsphairn Forest, Kirkudbrightshire, near Dumfries in the Scottish Borders.
Fairhurst were requested to supervise a geotechnical site investigation and assess rock quality to enable the design of pre-stressed rock anchors for the wind turbines. Fairhurst's services were retained during the construction to ensure the design was implemented efficiently and to specification. At the time of construction this was Scotland's second largest wind farm, covering 350 hectares.
