Development Planning : Park View : Public Consultation and Liaison

Public consultation has been ongoing in Chevington for a number of years to keep local residents and stakeholders continually up to date with developments being undertaken within the settlement.

Grainger plc are now developing Phase 3 of the Park View residential development and community involvement has been paramount to finalising this scheme. What is also important to note is that, as a result of public consultation, no objections were made to the now delivered Park View Phases 1 and 2.

Public consultation both with the local community and ward councillors helped to agree Heads of Terms for a Section 106 Agreement and also assisted in the site layout of the scheme. A ‘Planning for Real’ exercise proved highly successful with many local school children becoming involved in designing the site layout which fed into the finalised design process.

As well as consultation events, partnerships were also formed and as a direct result of this, Grainger plc is represented on the Board of ENRgI at Director level. Monthly Chevington Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership Action Team meetings, Chevington Development Framework Steering Group meetings and monthly Chevington Beat meetings, where local residents have the opportunity to raise problems regarding crime and disorder direct with Northumbria Police Force through their local Community Beat Manager, are also attended to ensure problems and queries are tackled at a strategic level as well as at grass roots level.

The professional work in partnership with others is now continuing. Representations have been made on the Castle Morpeth Borough Council Core Strategy Preferred Options for further development in Chevington. A Masterplan has also been created to deliver a leisure development and a hotel / restaurant linked to Druridge Bay Country Park.
