Ecosse Regeneration Ltd (funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland) is nearing completion of the first phase of reinstatement at their Heartlands site near Whitburn. This is an ambitious project on a 25 km2 site to create a developable platform for 5,000 residential units as well as extensive recreational and social infrastructure. Fairhurst have been lead engineering consultant for the project since its inception in 2001. An extensive range of services has previously and continue to be provided.
The site was previously in various stages of industrial dereliction with a number of derelict collieries, waste bings (some on fire), derelict railway sidings and extensive near surface partially worked coal seams. The remaining coal has been opencast from the site and levels brought back to surface using state of the art compaction techniques design and supervised by Fairhurst.
