Major Projects : Blaydon Quarry : Environmental Impact Assessment

LOCATION: Blaydon Quarry
CLIENT: Tarmac Ltd
STATUS: Ongoing

Fairhurst were originally instructed by Tarmac Ltd to submit three planning applications under Section 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to amend conditions attached to a previously granted planning application at Blaydon Quarry, Gateshead. The three applications were submitted with an Environmental Impact Assessment for:

  • The continuation of Sand and Gravel Operations with associated Plant and Silt Lagoons until 31 December 2011;
  • Temporary retention of the Asphalt Plant until 31 December 2007; and
  • Provision of a Soils Recovery Facility.

Prior to the submission of the Planning Applications and Environmental Impact Assessments, Fairhurst undertook public consultation to ensure that local residents and interested parties were fully aware of the proposals and any potential environmental effects.

All applications were subsequently approved and Fairhurst have received a further instruction from Tarmac Limited to prepare and submit a planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment for the relocation of the Asphalt Plant to a nearby industrial estate in Gateshead.
