Fairhurst has carried out the design of various temporary works to help facilitate the construction of the second Tyne Tunnel Crossing. These works include the river works; a series or retaining walls on the North and South side, the temporary works for a new bridge at Howard Street, and design of outfall structures.
The river combi-walls allow dredging of the river down to as low as -20m OD. Howard Street temporary works involve driving sheet pile walls either side of an existing highway and tying underneath the carriageway.
