The Pavilion on the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare burnt down in the summer of 2008. Owner ‘Grand Pier Ltd’ were determined to re-build a bigger and better Pavilion to replace it and to have the new building open to the public by the summer of 2010.
The new building comprises ‘Cellform’ steel beams spanning up to 18m, supporting concrete floor slabs, providing large column free areas for the many rides and attractions, which include a Helter Skelter, a Go-Kart track, Dodgems, a Ghost Train and many others.
A 90m tall Observation Tower is to be erected at the end of the Pier. This is founded on steel piles and a reinforced concrete frame designed to withstand the very high overturning forces produced by wind and wave action.
