Alterations and extensions to the existing BMW showroom which comprised the conversion of the existing workshop to a used car showroom, the refurbishment of the existing new car showroom and the addition of an aerofoil feature at roof level.
To create a column free frontage to the new used car showroom, the existing columns to the front of the building were replaced with a new large span portal frame which supported the existing steel roof structure.
The aerofoil feature is formed in structural steel and is supported off the existing roof structure over the new and used car showrooms. Careful consideration had to be given to assessing the suitability of the existing roof beams to support the structure forming the aerofoil.
