Water Services : Loch Udromul

Loch Udromul is a raised natural loch located near Geocrab on the Isle of Harris, in the Western Isles of Scotland. The loch supplies water to a fish hatchery at Geocrab. It was required to raise the level of Loch Udromul by a further 1m at to provide increased storage to improve the reliability of the water supply to the fish hatchery.
Fairhurst provided the Construction Engineer under the Reservoirs Act 1975 and carried out the stability analysis for the new mass concrete dams. The foundation conditions were poor in weathered and jointed rock and much of the design had to be carried out as the contractor worked according to the conditions found. Fairhurst also provided construction supervision visits.
