Water Services : River Clyde Flood Management Strategy

LOCATION: Glasgow
CLIENT: Glasgow City Council
STATUS: Completed 2005
COST: £45m - £165m

The River Clyde is prone to flooding and as it passes through Glasgow it is dominated by fluvial flows in the upper half of the city and tidal effects in the lower half.

Glasgow City Council appointed a joint venture between Fairhurst and Halcrow to investigate the flooding of the River Clyde and develop a strategy to manage it. Options may include a tidal barrier or barrage downstream of the city to control tidal surges and flood plain storage to limit the fluvial flows upstream.
