In 2015, an ambitious school leaver, Bethany Clark joined the Fairhurst Inverness office as an Administration Assistant, while studying Administration and Business Management. In this role, and after successfully completing her early studies, Bethany made her ambition to become a structural engineer known and in 2015, was offered the opportunity to transition into the structural engineering team as a Trainee Technician. This progression was the start of Bethany’s career in the construction industry.

In 2016, Bethany pursued a Graduate Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering along with an SVQ4 in Built Environment Design where she worked diligently through 6 years of study. In 2022, her hard work and commitment was acknowledged when she achieved a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering and in recognition of her hard work, Bethany was promoted to Graduate Structural Engineer.

After finishing University, Bethany joined the Institution of Civil Engineers as a Graduate Member and in December 2023 successfully passed her professional review to gain Incorporated Engineer status. Bethany has also featured in the ICE’s GirlGuiding UK initiative that she hopes will inspire young Engineers of the future.

This year marks an exciting milestone for Bethany as she marks 10 years working at Fairhurst. She has established her career in Structural Engineering and has recently extended her skills into a contract management role, supporting and managing Fairhurst’s sub-consultant teams across some of the Highlands’ most influential projects. In 2026, she aims to gain a NEC Contract Management qualification to formally back up the skills and experience she’s built along the way.

My biggest motivator at work is being a part of an enthusiastic team of engineers and technicians. My team is approachable and positive which always motivates me to succeed.
