Fairhurst, on behalf of Hope Construction Materials have submitted a full planning application for a concrete batching plant at Middlegate, White Lund Industrial Estate, Morecambe in February 2015, which is currently pending determination.

Hope Construction Materials is the largest independent producer of cement, concrete and aggregates in Britain. The proposals comprise the erection of a concrete batching plant and ancillary development including a small modular office and storage bays. The scheme is located on previously developed land which extends to an area of approximately 0.3 hectares.Fairhurst considers that the development of the vacant plot will contribute to the council aspirations to regenerate White Lund Industrial Estate as a major employment generating area for the district.

As an overview, the cement will be delivered in tankers and blown into the storage silos using a completely air tight delivery system so no cement dust will be released into the atmosphere. The aggregate (sand and gravel) will be supplied from local sources and brought to site in sheeted wagons and tipped into the aggregate storage bays. The concrete produced from this plant will be used to supply local construction projects thereby helping to sustain and contribute towards the growing local economy.
