Glasgow (Water)

Our Water Team is recruiting for Civil Engineers, Environmental Consultants and Geo-morphologists with full time and part time roles available to support our clients on projects that range from property development to major infrastructure schemes.

Our Water Team has 22 members of staff working across the following areas:

• Development drainage and water infrastructure: providing assessment and design services in the areas of drainage (MicroDrainage or similar), sustainable drainage (SuDS) and water supply for major development sites and trunk road and rail infrastructure;
• River engineering: providing assessment, design and inspection services relating to flood risk management, engineering hydrology, river modelling (TUFLOW, Flood Modeler, Hec-Ras, ICM), watercourse structures (culverts, weirs, overflow channels etc.) and dams/reservoir engineering; and
• Water environment: providing environmental hydrology, water quality monitoring, EIA, geomorphology and other water environment compliance advice as well as supporting clients with direct consenting services under the Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR).

While line management follows these services, members of our team have transferable skills, and we encourage the broad development of capabilities and cross learning as part of CPD.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We strongly believe in the development of strong technical skills, along with providing the opportunity for our team members to support clients’ through good communication skills and the ability to demonstrate complex ideas and solutions in ways that drive projects forward.

Graduates will be supported by senior staff in developing capabilities, and will be encouraged to actively work towards professional qualification in their field. Graduates will integrate within the team and support the delivery of tasks and projects ranging in scale up to major national infrastructure schemes. Graduates should have a hunger to learn and the flexibility to adapt to an exciting range of tasks and opportunities.

Senior Engineers / Consultants are expected to have a minimum of 5 years of experience with longer being advantageous. We would like our Senior Engineers / Consultants to be able demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to convey outcomes of technical work in a clear and concise manner to influence behaviors. Senior Engineers / Consultants should have experience in managing and developing Graduates and overseeing tasks, and be keen to build on these skills within a supportive environment. Senior Engineers / Consultants should have experience in face to face meetings with clients, stakeholders and regulators to achieve the best project outcomes.

Qualifications / Experience

Graduates:

• A relevant first degree to honors level, and preferably a post graduate qualification that includes credits and a project in their field.
• Experience in a consultancy environment would be advantageous either on a full time basis or as part of a placement.
• An understanding of software used in design / assessment.
• An appreciation of the mechanisms of regulating drainage, watercourses and the water environment in Scotland.

Senior Engineers / Consultants

• A relevant first degree to honors level, and preferably a post graduate qualification that includes credits and a project in their field of interest.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in consultancy (or a PhD for a Geomorphologist).
• Be professionally qualified / chartered with the ICE or CIWEM, or approaching this status.
• Experience in the management and coordination of tasks.
• Experience in managing and supporting graduates and the services of other specialists.
• A track record of good verbal and report writing skills.
• A strong understanding of the mechanisms of regulating drainage, watercourses and the water environment in Scotland.
• Flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic approach to working within a team structure.
• An interest in making the most out of your own skills, and supporting change within the business to maximize the opportunities arising from these skills.
