Position Summary:

We are seeking a Principal Drainage and Water (Civil) Engineer to join our Water Services team based in Glasgow. The roles support our strategy for growth in infrastructure and development design services where we have a varied workload of committed projects across the property, transport and energy sectors.  Our significant activities include major waterfront developments, trunk road schemes, rail projects, and large renewables / grid infrastructure investments.

The successful applicant would be responsible for day-to-day management of technical work on projects ranging in scale from maintenance interventions on existing road and rail projects to extensive new infrastructure. You would be involved in project planning and financial control activities, with support provided to develop these skills if necessary. We would like you to quickly integrate within our teams, providing high quality services to our clients, and be motivated to develop towards future career steps.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing or interpreting project programmes and identifying resource needs for tasks.
  • Monitoring delivery risk associated with project work, and seeking support from senior managers within the team where appropriate.
  • Undertake, delegate and review technical work including design calculations, models, drawings and reports, and be able to interpret the work of other technical teams to establish how they affect your work.
  • Adhere to current standards and quality systems.
  • Lead by example of health and safety matters.
  • Support the development and training of graduates and technicians.
  • Contribute to the wider team with impact, identifying better ways to work to support technology, efficiency, and quality opportunities.
  • Support and develop capabilities in work bidding and work winning.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or relevant other first degree with a masters.
  • Be a Chartered Engineer and a member of ICE or CIWEM.
  • Have worked at Senior or Principal Engineer level, supporting projects with impact for several years at this level.
  • Currently perform in a role that includes the management of deliverables, client interaction, resource control and quality management.
  • Have good report writing and communication skills
  • Experience in applying DMRB, Scottish Water and other national body design standards.
  • Strong skills in MicroDrainage, Causeway and/or InfoDrainage software; Civils3D; and BIM environment tools.
