Due to a healthy forward workload, we are looking to appoint a Principal Engineer to join our Marine team in the Newcastle office, on a full time and permanent basis. The successful candidate will have an unparalleled opportunity to work directly with, and support, the Office Partners in the delivery of a varied portfolio of civil engineering works in the marine environment. We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with a positive and practical approach to solving engineering puzzles. Our portfolio of marine work includes harbour and quay walls; piers; wave protection structures; marinas & berthing facilities and coastal land reclamation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical lead in the design and assessment of marine structures.
- Review designs and drawings completed by team members or other parties for compliance with design standards, best practice guidance, contractual obligations and client expectations, ensuring that quality and consistency of technical output is maintained.
- Ensure work is compliant with Health and Safety legislation such as the CDM Regulations and other applicable codes.
- Liaison with statutory bodies and provision of support, mentoring and guidance to developing team members.
- Liaise in a professional manner with colleagues, clients, contractors and other designers and offer advice and guidance on matters relating to their work.
- Undertake analysis and design using a range of software packages.
- Attend design meetings, site meetings and carryout site inspections.
- Support the Office Partners in business development through client liaison, networking and preparation of bids and proposals to sustain and grow a strong client base.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor degree or masters level qualification in a Civil Engineering discipline.
- Hold a professional qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body at Chartered or Incorporated status i.e Institution of Civil Engineers, or, be working towards Chartered Status of an appropriate professional institution
- A minimum of 7-10 years post-graduation experience
- Relevant experience of civil engineering problem solving and development of sound engineering solutions
- Excellent report writing, communication and numerical skills
- A track record of developing and maintaining relationships with clients and project stakeholders
- The ability to take initiative and manage your own workload and that of others to meet deadlines
- A flexible and enthusiastic approach to working within a team structure
- Technically competent in the field of civil engineering
- Full clean driving license
