Fairhurst is seeking water environment / environmental hydrology specialists at experienced graduate to senior consultant level to join our team in Glasgow. The roles support our strategy for growth in the service where we have a significant and varied workload of committed projects, and plans for diversification.

Our Water Team currently has 25 engineers and consultants with activities broadly divided into services.

The water environment service, where the successful candidates would be placed, provides environmental hydrology, environmental management, water quality monitoring, hydro-geomorphology, CAR, EIA, Environmental Clark of Works, and marine licencing expertise.

The three other services within the team comprise:

Water and watercourse engineering: providing assessment services relating to river modelling, coastal flood risk, flood alleviation, hydrology and climate change resilience
Infrastructure: providing design services in the areas of flood protection, watercourse structures, drainage, SuDS, water supply, and infrastructure adoption; and
Dams and reservoirs: with in-house ARPE and Supervising Engineers under the Reservoirs Acts, we provide inspection, assessment, design and construction support services across water resource and hydro-electric assets
The experience profile of our team ranges from technicians and graduates to senior staff of up to 40 years’ experience who provide direction and development guidance. Fairhurst is a Limited Liability Partnership, and all of our Partners are practising specialists that support teams and our clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are engaged in a broad range of exciting projects across major transport infrastructure, energy and development sectors supporting design, implementation and management of assets that complement and enhance how we function in harmony with our water environment.

We are looking for a graduate with 2 to 3 years’ experience and a senior level consultant who share our passion for supporting successful outcomes. We value thorough analysis to understand constraints and opportunities, and those with an interest in achieving the best possible solutions for our clients and the environments contribute to.

Candidates will be expected to have an understanding of water environment legislation and regulatory regimes primarily in Scotland, but experience across the wider UK is of interest. We are looking for good communicators that are able to work with specialists in related disciplines, influence decision making, and secure consensus from stakeholders, regulators and clients for well-conceived proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • A degree in environmental sciences or relevant other first degree and /or masters.
  • Be a member of CIWEM. For graduates, you should be committed to becoming Chartered members, and more experienced candidates should be Chartered or close to submitting for their professional review with the support of our in house mentors.
  • Have prior experience in environmental hydrology and consenting, particularly in practices associated with defining water quality standards, monitoring watercourses, and assessing and reporting on analysis.
  • Be able to demonstrate success in supporting / submitting CAR licence applications for engineering and construction activities and engaging in consultations with stakeholders.
