Katie Rowe - Graduate Engineer

In 2011, a talented graduate named Katie Rowe started her journey with Fairhurst. Equipped with a BEng (Hons) in Architectural Engineering from Cardiff University, Katie started as a Graduate Structural Engineer. Her ambition was clear: to achieve Chartered Engineer status, so she joined the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) accredited training scheme, diligently working through quarterly reports and continued professional development. In 2012, Katie pursued a distance learning postgraduate degree at the University of Bath, earning an MSc in Façade Engineering with Merit in 2014. This achievement provided the additional expertise needed for Chartered status and led to a well-deserved promotion to Structural Engineer.

In 2018, Katie faced the Professional Review for Chartered Engineer with ICE. Succeeding in the presentation, interview, and written examination, she earned the prestigious CEng MICE title and even received a nomination for the Renee Redfern Hunt Memorial Prize. Throughout her journey, Katie contributed significantly to projects like the Somerset County Cricket Club’s pavilion and the Haynes International Motor Museum, showcasing exceptional skills and dedication.

In 2023, Fairhurst recognized Katie’s outstanding leadership qualities, promoting her to the role of Technical Manager for the structures team in the Taunton office. Now, with 12 years of experience, Katie manages a team of exceptional engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence. The future holds even greater promise as Katie continues to inspire others and advance within the esteemed Fairhurst family.

I enjoy the variety in my job – whilst there is continuity through ongoing projects and repeat clients, no two days are the same. Some days are spent in the office liaising with clients and the wider design team, others are spent on site, and others are spent working under pressure to solve problems that require urgent design input. I relish the challenge of not knowing what my day entails.
