Located within the Manor Royal business area of Crawley, the site has good transportation links to Gatwick Airport as well as the M25 motorway. The development consists of 2 new warehouse units providing 65,000 sq.ft & 19,000 sq.ft of accommodation with integral office facilities, car parking and service yards.
The site formally contained two 1990’s era office blocks which were demolished to make way for the new development. Suitable crushed graded material from the demolition works was re-used in the new permanent works as sub-base to external areas.
The site constraints that needed to be considered in our earthworks / levels design included a protected tree (resulting in no dig construction to the car park), an existing sewer that needed diverting as well as close proximity to an existing pedestrian footbridge structure. Significant retaining structures were required around the northern boundary of the site to ensure a material could be kept onsite as part of the cut and fill balance.
