The bridge is made up of a 20.0m and 10.0m span glued and screwed stress laminated timber arch supported by two reinforced concrete abutments and a reinforced concrete pier.
In cross-section, the bridge has a clear width of 2.0m and has a 1.1m handrail with guarding which acts as a parapet for the bridge deck and results in the unique aesthetic of the bridge.
The unique design was developed in collaboration with the client and key stakeholders from the outset utilising Fairhurst’s civil engineering expertise from optioneering through to detailed design.
The project was meticulously planned to ensure successful delivery within strict seasonal limitations. This involved evaluating member sizes to guarantee the construction method’s viability, selecting timber members with readily available supply, and meeting the stringent structural criteria.
The project has been listed in the international Dezeen Awards 2022 and Fairhurst was highly commended as the engineer for the project in the UK Structural Timber Awards 2022, and the IStructE Scottish Structural Awards 2022.
The project also received a commendation at the Scottish Design Awards 2022.
