East Anglia One was the first project undertaken by Scottish Power Renewables within the East Anglia Hub complex. The 714MW windfarm has been operational since 2020, with an overall project cost circa £2.7bn. Fairhurst were commissioned by Scottish Power for three separate contracts associated with East Anglia One.
The first commission was for the Onshore Cable Corridor where Fairhurst provided all road improvement designs to facilitate access to the 37km long cable corridor around the outskirts of Ipswich from the landfall site at Bawdsey, to the new onshore substation site at Bullen Lane, Bramford. Fairhurst liaised with Suffolk County Council to agree all works required along with providing preliminary design information for the 37km Haul Road. The Haul Road design was ultimately taken over by the Contractor, however Fairhurst received an additional commission to prepare a detailed Surface Water Management plan for the works.
The second commission was for full civil engineering design of the new substation platform. Detailed Surface Water Management designs were prepared to assist at planning Stage, and further developed through to the construction phase. Fairhurst assisted Scottish Power with various landowner discussion throughout, along with providing a Resident Engineer to oversee the installation of the platform.
The third commission was for the Structural Design of the new GIS Building within the substation site. Fairhurst acted as lead consultant on the commission, and collaborated with local Architects and M&E Consultants to provide Iberdrola with a full building design service.
Feedback received from the Lead Construction Manager at Scottish Power:
