As part of the London North Eastern Civil Asset Management Framework with QTS Group Ltd for Network Rail, Fairhurst was commissioned to undertake a detailed tactile inspection of a 20m-high limestone rock slope above the AJM1 line.
Our Engineering Geologists inspected the slope from track level and via rope access techniques to record rock discontinuity data and make observations on the structure and stability of the rockmass. In addition to the assessment of size and frequency of rockfall hazards on the slope, consideration was given to the likelihood of those rockfalls affecting the line, culminating in the completion of a qualitative risk appraisal. This was followed by a high-level appraisal of remedial options to reduce the identified risks.
