Oakenholt Reservoir is located approximately 2.7km south east of the town of Flint, and provides the water supply for a nearby papermill in the village of Oakenholt.
Fairhurst have been appointed as supervising reservoir engineers for the project, and undertake regular surveys of the condition of the dam. Arising from an inspection of the reservoir it was deemed that an auxiliary overflow would be required in order to safely convey 1 in 10000 year flood event. Modelling of this was undertaken within the Fairhurst Glasgow Office, with subsequent structural and civils design works undertaken in the Birmingham Office.
Fairhurst were appointed as project managers for the project, and as such took on the role of organising soil investigation, topographical surveys, tendering the project, and supervising construction.
Fairhurst provided flood modelling of the auxiliary channel in order to assess its capacity to take the 1 in 10000-year storm event, and flow routes back into the main channel and culvert system. This design was then approved at planning, and later approved by the All-Reservoir Panel Engineer for the reservoir.
Structural design was then undertaken by Fairhurst, and associated Civils design such as earthworks, landscaping, and design of erosion control.
