Fairhurst is delighted to announce that our Planning Team has been shortlisted for the Mid-Size Planning Consultancy of the Year at the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Award for Planning Excellence. This recognition highlights the outstanding work and wealth of knowledge that the planning team brings.

Comprised of Chartered Members and future RTPI professionals, the team thrives on a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and daily knowledge-sharing. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that we reflect the communities we serve, delivering high-quality, inclusive planning solutions for both public and private clients.

After a fantastic year, 2025 marks significant growth in the team, following the appointment of Josh Murphy, Head of Planning who was named RTPI North East Young Planner of the Year in 2024. Since then, the team has grown with new members, enriching our capabilities such as Environmental Impact Assessment, marine planning, and infrastructure development.

Our team demonstrates a strong integrated approach: from delivering high-profile regeneration projects like Sheepfolds to existing new areas to support Kynren’s Lost Feather show, to supporting local authorities such as Newcastle City Council providing essential secondment support. The team’s innovation is evident in our creative responses to planning challenges. Whether it’s navigating heritage and biodiversity sensitivities at St Andrews Harbour or embedding climate resilience into EIA-led developments, the team tailors our approach to each client and project

Backed by glowing client feedback, our planners are not only shaping places but also promoting the value of planning to future generations by encouraging young people to take an interest in planning.

As the awards ceremony approaches, we’re incredibly proud to be recognised alongside some of the best planners in the industry.

Quote from Josh Murphy, Head of Planning at Fairhurst:

“Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the team’s dedication, adaptability, and passion for planning. We are thrilled to be recognised by the RTPI for the work we love doing for our clients.”
