Fairhurst is delighted that our project, Ulverston Emergency Works, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Ground Engineering Awards.

Storm Bert’s heavy rainfall in November 2024 caused a landslip near Ulverston, Cumbria, blocking the CBC railway with 1,500 tonnes of debris and flooding the station. Network Rail and QTS Group, assisted by Fairhurst, rapidly implemented emergency measures, restoring service within three days and completing a permanent, environmentally considerate repair in just 26 days with minimal rail closures. This was achieved through true collaboration and innovation by all involved.

Congratulations to the whole project team!
