We sat down with Grant from the Elgin office to get an inside look at recent developments, exciting projects, and what’s on the horizon for the team.

Q: What’s been happening recently at the Elgin office?

A: The Elgin office continues to work with our local clients as well as working closely with Diageo on a number of their projects. We are assisting our Inverness and Edinburgh offices with work on the large-scale SSE initiative to upgrade large parts of the existing electricity network (ASTI).

Our team has grown with two new Trainee Technicians and one Graduate Engineer and an Engineer, with all four already proving to be highly valuable assets to the Elgin office. We have been able to facilitate this growth with our continued organic workload growth through our diverse projects.

Q: Can you tell us more about some of the key projects you’re involved in?

A: Certainly. One of our major collaborations is with Diageo, where we’re supporting projects at over five distilleries in Speyside. These projects are focused on maintaining production efficiency and ensuring ongoing compliance with industry standards.

We’ve also developed a strong working relationship with Springfield. We’re helping them across multiple sites to secure necessary approvals and stay on track with their construction goals.

Q: What are you most looking forward to this year?

A: We’re really excited about the expansion of our service offerings. In addition to our core strengths in Structural and Civil Design (including roads, levels, and earthworks), we now offer Watermain design, services liaison, and renewable energy consulting services. These new capabilities open up the Elgin office to a wider clientele as well as provide further assistance to our existing clients.

Q: Are there any community initiatives the Elgin office is involved in?

A: Yes, we’re proud to be part of the Career Ready programme in the Elgin area. It’s a fantastic initiative where local professionals mentor secondary school students over an 18-month period. The programme includes monthly mentoring sessions and a four-week paid internship at our office. It’s a great way to help students build confidence and develop essential workplace skills like communication, time management, and responsibility.

Henry Angus, a member of the Local Area Board of Career Ready, said:

“I was delighted to attend Bobby’s internship presentation in July where I met his mentor, Liam, and other members of staff at Fairhurst.  It was clear right from the start how valued a member of the team Bobby had become in only a few short weeks.  He was confident during his presentation and gave a clear overview of the company and all the tasks he had undertaken during his internship.  The strong rapport between Bobby and Liam was good to see and as a previous mentor myself this resonated with me so much.  Many talented young people simply need an opportunity to realise their potential and fulfil their promise within a meaningful career. Employers, mentors and the students themselves are all part of what makes the Career Ready journey so special.”

Q: Any final thoughts?

A: We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and the relationships we’ve built. With a growing team, expanded services, and meaningful community involvement, the Elgin office is dedicated to continued growth and expansion.
