Orchard Brae School is delighted to announce an innovative collaboration with Fairhurst to design and provide a specialised, accessible outdoor learning environment.

Outdoor education is considered of upmost importance in helping youngsters develop vital skills. However, given the exceptional presentations of pupils attending Orchard Brae School, accessing this has been a huge challenge. Step forward Fairhurst, who along with city business partners, have understood the barriers and taken remarkable steps to ensure Aberdeen’s children gain equitable access to lifelong enhancing learning.

The construction of a specialist outdoor classroom, alongside enhancements to outdoor play equipment, ensures youngsters can safely explore, connect and be curious about the world they live in, providing foundations for them to develop as healthy, confident and responsible citizens. Igniting excitement throughout our community, the outdoor classroom project is poised to expand the educational landscape at Orchard Brae.

Elaine Thomson, Executive Head Teacher of Orchard Brae School, expressed her deep gratitude, stating, ‘Collaborating with Bob McCracken, Chairman of Fairhurst, and the Fairhurst team has been a privilege. Their understanding of our students ensures that the classroom will cater to the evolving needs of our learners. Further to the recent completion of this project we look forward to our students engaging with the inspiring space.’

Fairhurst values the opportunity to contribute to the local community. Bob McCracken voiced his appreciation, noting ‘The collective generosity of local development and construction companies towards this project has been truly overwhelming. We sincerely appreciate their willingness to come together and make such significant contributions.’

The enthusiasm for the outdoor learning environment extends far beyond the school gates, reaching the families of Orchard Brae pupils, who take delight in knowing that through meaningful partnerships with local businesses, who have strong community values, this initiative will positively impact on their children’s education and wellbeing.

The schools key project partners led by Fairhurst, have gone beyond and made a lasting and invaluable contribution to the success of this initiative.
