Clare Barber - Fairhurst Stories

Clare first joined Fairhurst in 2008 as a Graduate Engineering Geologist on completion of her BSc (Hons) Earth Science degree. Within the first three years of her career at Fairhurst she had the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects ranging from rock engineering, to work in the defence industry and sustainable energy sector.

Following her interaction with the other engineering disciplines at Fairhurst, Clare sought to expand her knowledge and moved to Edinburgh in 2011 to gain her Masters in Civil Engineering. Clare continued to build industry experience, working as an Engineer while studying and returned to Fairhurst with in 2014, joining the Watford Office as a Geo-Environmental Engineer.

Clare quickly developed an ambition to build the Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental offering in the South. She successfully built the contaminated land services in Watford before setting her sights on the London office, moving there in 2015. Clare expanded the Geo South team and capabilities while remaining committed to her professional development, becoming a Chartered member of the IES and a Qualified Person (CL:AIRE) in 2020 and 2021.

Through her determination and unwavering commitment to her Clients, promotions quickly followed from Senior Engineer in 2015 through to Technical Manager by 2019. The diverse skill set and project management experience she has gained at Fairhurst was further recognised and Clare became Principal Director in 2023. Her latter career progression at Fairhurst has occurred in a period of much change in her personal life, including her marriage, the birth of her two children and five house moves!

Clare has an ever-present thirst for knowledge and is dedicated to nurturing her Client relationships. She is driven to ensure that those who join Fairhurst are afforded the same fantastic career experiences, support, and opportunities she has had.

My favourite part of working at Fairhurst is the dynamic working environment. Having spent over 10 years of my career at Fairhurst, the diverse nature of the work, the geographical coverage, the engineering challenges and associated sense of achievement when they are overcome, along with the variety of people that we work with keeps the job interesting and enjoyable. I have never had a dull day!
