Siân was born in England but grew up in the United States where she did the majority of her schooling including completing university. For university, she attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, graduating with honours with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 2012.
After graduating, Siân got a job as an engineer working for the Sussex County Division of Engineering, a local government in New Jersey. At the County, she was responsible for helping with the operation and maintenance of their infrastructure system, consisting of 310 miles of roadway and over 400 bridges, with her focus being the bridges.
In 2018, Siân left Sussex County and returned to England, moving to the Bristol area where she started her job search. After a few interviews with other companies, she had an interview with Fairhurst in Taunton, who were looking for a structural engineer to help with the design of precast concrete facades and a bridge project. She was offered the position, which she didn’t hesitate to accept, and since has become an integral member of the structures team. Currently she is working on a variety of projects, including a large steel framed building and smaller residential projects, and is involved in many aspects of the business, from design work to mentoring young engineers to bringing in new clients.
While working for Sussex County, Siân gained the experience she required to sit her Professional Engineer’s Exam, taking and passing the exam in early 2017. Having acquired her United States Professional Engineer License, she still maintains it, being currently licensed in the state of Washington and is working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer with the ICE.
