The rapid growth of women’s rugby is fantastic to witness and the energy generated on the world stage is filtering down to the grassroots level and inspiring all.
A few years ago, the team only had a few members attending training. However, after setting ambitious targets, the Cougars were able to turn it around. Steve Wright, Commercial Manager at the club, remarked, “With support from many organisations in the community, such as Fairhurst, we now have forty women training twice a week and two full teams playing every week.”
In the last two seasons, fifteen players earned spots on Edinburgh or Glasgow squads, two joined the 6 Nations squad, and Alex Stewart was chosen to represent Scotland.
A huge well done to all the players and coaches and everyone involved at Corstorphine Cougars RFC. Cheers to continuing this momentum into the next season!
