Role Overview – Due to a healthy forward workload, we are currently looking to appoint an experienced Graduate in our Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will work on design of major infrastructure, highway and energy schemes. To work in both supervised and unsupervised environments, ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct to the standard required and meets client needs and expectations.
All engineers work under direct supervision of our highly experienced directors and alongside our team of dedicated engineers and technicians. We can offer an ICE approved training agreement and a route towards chartered membership of a professional engineering institution.
Depending on experience as you progress you can expect to be active on a number of projects and with a number of clients at any given time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design of major infrastructure, highway and energy schemes. To work in both supervised and unsupervised environments, ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct to the standard required and meets client needs and expectations.
- Liaise and communicate clearly in a professional manner to colleagues, clients, contractors and other designers to offer advice and guidance on matters relating to your work.
- Be able to work in close collaboration with team members.
- Attendance at design meetings, site meetings and carryout site inspections.
- Developing and mentoring of less experienced team members.
- Work on projects with consideration to the agreed project budgetary limits and timescales.
- Liaison with statutory bodies including Local Authorities, Transport Scotland, SSEN.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years experience
- Experience in the use of the UK Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW).
- Experience in the use of Civils3D highway design software.
- Experience using and creating 3D models for use in BIM desirable but not essential.
- Experience in the use of other software packages for sign, line and VRS design.
- Demonstrate working within a multi-disciplinary design team
- Understanding & appreciation of health and safety legislation covering the construction industry
- Bachelor degree or masters level qualification in a Civil Engineering discipline.
- Working towards Chartered Status of an appropriate professional institution e.g. MICE, MCIHT.
