This new-build innovation centre was constructed as part of the Central Park Masterplan development in Darlington and provides Grade A office space and laboratories for small and medium-sized enterprises. The building has officially been named ‘Innovation Central’ and it is intended to provide entrepreneurs with the environment, community and services to thrive.
Fairhurst worked closely with the main contractor, client and design team to provide civil, structural and geo-environmental engineering proposals from the concept stage right through to the successful delivery of the project.
In order to achieve the client brief and design intent, Fairhurst developed a lightweight braced steel frame that would offer both high-quality and flexible working spaces. Additionally, Fairhurst’s geotechnical engineers worked closely with the piling subcontractor to develop an efficient substructure solution.
Close collaboration amongst the Fairhurst multidisciplinary in-house team ensured that coordinated solutions and comprehensive services were offered to the client. Careful consideration of the existing site constraints and flexible space requirements by Fairhurst resulted in development proposals that met the needs of both the client and contractor.
