The £116 million Levenmouth Rail Link, which is being funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Network Rail and ScotRail, opened this week. lt reconnects Leven and Cameron Bridge to Scotland’s railway network for the first time in more than half a century.
JWHRoss, the mining legacy arm of Fairhurst Group LLP, have been engaged by the development consortium to provide consultancy services to identify and provide risk mitigation options associated with historic coal mining that has been identified in locations that impact the operational line and other associated infrastructure. This has required detailed assessment of old mine plans, design of intrusive investigations, interpretation and risk assessment, and in some locations, the design of mineral consolidation by infill grouting.
The historic reintroduction of the railway line will improve connectivity for local communities, providing greater access to education, entertainment, and employment and help drive a low-carbon future for the area.
