Located in Morpeth Town Centre, the newly built leisure centre has expanded the high street and provided a state-of-the-art facility for the community. The £21m development includes a six-lane 25m swimming pool with spectator seating, additional fitness suites, spa facilities, educational areas, café and sports hall are all included within the community-focused facility.
Fairhurst assisted Willmott Dixon during their tender bid by developing various value engineering proposals which ultimately resulted in a successful tender bid. Subsequently, Fairhurst was appointed to deliver civil, structural and geo-environmental Engineering services from RIBA Stage 4 through to completion.
Following a detailed review of the original civil and structural proposals, Fairhurst was able to reduce the foundation sizes and associated earthworks via the use of innovative ground improvement techniques. Furthermore, Fairhurst refined the braced steel frame, construction details and drainage layout to facilitate both programme and financial benefits making this financially viable for the client.
