Fairhurst was appointed by Rutherford Estates to provide civil, structural & geo-environmental engineering services for several new cancer treatment and diagnostic centres across the UK.
As part of the Somerset Diagnostics Centre, Fairhurst developed innovative civil and structural proposals to utilise the existing building to its full potential.
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) was proposed as a lightweight infill to raise slab levels without increasing the load on foundations and secondary trimming steelwork was provided to support sensitive equipment and to isolate them from the existing structure.
Additionally, Fairhurst provided structural assessments and advice in relation to the condition and construction of the existing structure.
