Victoria Road, North Acton, London

Our team in Huddersfield, Sanderson Associates, have provided Downing with transport consultancy services for Purpose Built Student Accommodation planning application schemes in Leeds, Manchester, London, Newcastle, Brighton and Coventry, with cumulatively in excess of 5,000 bed spaces.

Sustainability is at the forefront of this development, with features that aim to achieve BREEAM Excellent standard, Target Secured by Design, and Home Quality Mark certification.

The site has a very high level of accessibility by active travel (walking and cycling) and by public transport. This led the development strategy for a car free scheme which does not provide car parking for residents, students or staff, aside from the provision of 2 blue badge spaces, with sustainable travel options providing for the developments daily transport requirements.

Significant transport benefits associated with the development include:

  • Excellent public transport access
  • Car-free scheme (except 2 blue badge spaces)
  • 596 cycle parking spaces and 34 short stay spaces
  • Substantial public transport contribution towards North Acton station improvements
  • Substantial contribution towards local bus capacity and network improvements

Sanderson Associates provided our client with transport consultancy services throughout the scheme process from development feasibility and Local Authority pre-application consultation to planning application and planning consent.

Services provided included:

  • Pre-application feasibility and scoping studies
  • Site layout, access and servicing advice
  • Transport Assessment Report including Active Travel and Healthy Streets Assessments
  • Travel Plan
  • Student Transport Management Plan Report
  • Delivery, Service and Waste Transport Management Plan Report
  • Construction Transport Management and Logistics Plan Report

Highways and Transportation was a key aspect within the active engagement with multiple agencies including Transport for London, Greater London Authority, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation and Ealing Council.

As an integral part of the development design team, Sanderson’s provided transport input and advice throughout the scheme development, at regular design team meetings, which helped deliver a successful scheme and planning consent.

The planning approval received from Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, in response to the submission of the planning application for a new 668-unit residential development in North Acton, will help meet the area’s demand for high-quality student accommodation and residential units.
