As 2025 dawns, the Ealing Studios project being designed by our Watford office nears completion with the first productions to be filmed in the new studio space likely commencing later in the year.

Glencar Construction were appointed to undertake the redevelopment of the iconic Ealing Studios in West London on behalf of client Pella Real Estate Partners. Ealing Studios are some of the oldest in the world, have been making films since 1902 and continue to do so.

The proposed works will see the construction of an iconic new building consisting of a 14,000 sq.ft sound stage, sandwiched between bookend clusters delivering four new workshops, additional office space, a new entrance reception, security, and site hub which will serve as the new face of Ealing Studios. It will involve demolishing and redeveloping part of the site but any listed buildings will not form part of this work.

The new white Ibstock Engobe brick building has been designed to honour the distinctive Art Deco aesthetic of the original 1930’s Grade II listed stages that still exist at the studio.

The development will aim to make Ealing Studios the first Net Zero Carbon stage in the UK and will be built to BREEAM Outstanding certification.

Just before the project went to site the incumbent civil and structural engineers went into administration and Fairhurst (Watford) stepped in to help Glencar deliver this ambitious project. A full design review of the existing information was required along with the need to develop the design from Tender Stage to Construction in a very short timescale, particularly as piling started within 2 weeks. We drew on our Studio design expertise (having completed the major Sky Studios Elstree scheme as well as issuing full tender design for Seren Studios in Wales) to keep the project moving.

Ealing Studios sits proudly alongside Sky Studios Elstree, Seren Studios and numerous other film and media projects designed and delivered by Fairhurst.
