George first joined Fairhurst in 2024 as a part‑time student on placement. After completing his T Level qualification, he was selected for the Apprenticeship and Placement Award 2025, which he went on to win. Following the completion of his course, he was offered a full‑time position as an apprentice in the Taunton office.

Soon after, he applied for and was accepted onto an integrated degree apprenticeship with Exeter University, supported by Fairhurst on a block‑release basis. He began the course in September, and the opportunity to study while working has already enabled him to make significant progress in his knowledge and skills on the job, even within a short period.

He is currently working as an apprentice within the civils team, supporting team members with client communication and drawing work. He is also working on several projects where he is acting as the first point of contact for clients.

Looking ahead, he aims to complete his degree apprenticeship and progress into a qualified Civil Engineer role at Fairhurst.

With everyday working at Fairhurst, I can feel my professional and industry skills develop. I have the chance to be involved in projects that are taken from conception to finished product which gives me a huge sense of purpose and achievement. For me, the greatest part of working at Fairhurst is that you can see the positive impact your work has on the community.
