After completing two years of studying civil engineering at the University of Bath, Ivy was excited to undertake her industrial placement year at Fairhurst. Supported by the structural team in London, she had the opportunity to put what she had learned in lectures and group projects into practice. Working and learning alongside exceptional engineers has given her the chance to work on a diverse range of projects, picking up key technical skills that will propel her career in the industry after university.
Beginning her undergraduate structural engineering journey with basic engineering knowledge, Ivy started with smaller tasks aimed at strengthening her fundamental skills. During her placement, she developed her ability to solve complex design problems and make informed decisions. She is now able to design and analyse a range of structural elements and continues to develop these skills. Halfway through her year at Fairhurst, Ivy has completed projects ranging from designing temporary works and connections to scheming entire residential blocks.
Ivy looks forward to continuing her enriching experience at Fairhurst and is excited to return to university with a new outlook on the industry, using the experience she has gained here to successfully complete her degree and return to the engineering scene as a graduate engineer.
