In 2025, Jamie began her career with Sanderson’s/Fairhurst after completing two years at college studying History, Sociology and Photography. Although her studies were not directly engineering-based, she had always been interested in problem solving and the built environment. With encouragement from her college careers advisor, she applied for an apprenticeship at Fairhurst and successfully secured a position on the Level 3 BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment. Joining the company marked an exciting first step into a professional engineering career.
Since starting, Jamie has developed significantly both personally and professionally. She has progressed from learning basic design principles to actively contributing to live projects, particularly within the highways and infrastructure sector. Working closely with senior engineers, she has gained experience in AutoCAD design, site visits, report writing and client communication. Key projects have included involvement in the Grange Moor Roundabout Reconstruction and assisting with elements of national Access Design schemes. Alongside practical experience, Jamie has completed internal training courses and is working towards further industry-recognised qualifications.
Jamie is currently employed as an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician, continuing to build her technical knowledge and professional confidence. Looking ahead, she hopes to complete her apprenticeship, gain professional accreditation and progress into a fully qualified engineering role. Her long-term ambition is to become a respected highways engineer and contribute to major infrastructure projects across the UK.
