In 2007 Liam left high school in the summer to take a job as an Apprentice CAD Technician with Waterman Civils in their Edinburgh office. He went on to attend Edinburgh’s Telford College 1 day a week for 4 years working towards an HNC in Civil Engineering, which he obtained with an “A” grade.

In 2013 after 6 years, Liam made the difficult decision to move on and take a promotion to CAD Technician with WSP, and after 1 year was promoted to Senior Technician within the team. It was after this promotion that he started to take on more responsibility which helped him realise the career path he wanted to follow.

Since then, he has continued to progress to the position of Senior Engineer that he currently holds now with us. This has involved working for consultancies, specialist housing development consultants and a house builder to date. Each time learning various skills, taking on different responsibilities, broadening his knowledge base and understanding the different requirements of different businesses and how they operate.

Liam hopes to continue to learn from others around him and to maintain the upward trend in his career. One of his career goals has been to build a successful team and Fairhurst is the perfect place to pursue this. He hopes to further progress within Fairhurst while helping to build a strong civils presence within the Elgin office.

One of the best parts of my job is the design aspect. Even after working on a variety of projects, I have yet to come across two sites with exactly the same conditions. I particularly enjoy finding a solution for clients whose options appear to have been exhausted.
