Nabeel joined Fairhurst in February 2020 as a Graduate Structural Engineer and the start of his career proved to be unorthodox. With an integrated master’s degree from the University of Southampton in Civil Engineering & Architecture and a fresh-faced excitement to finally dive into the industry, nothing could have prepared him for what came next.

After just one month into his Fairhurst journey, the global pandemic led to a nationwide lockdown and stay-at-home orders for non-essential workers. Nabeel spent his first few months at Fairhurst working completely remotely; a lifestyle which felt alien but one to which he quickly adapted. After almost a year, Nabeel was finally able to meet so many colleagues in person with whom he had met virtually.

Nabeel’s development over the last few years earned him two promotions including becoming a Structural Engineer in 2022 and Senior Structural Engineer in 2024. He is largely involved in a variety of projects, including Project Emerald, a unique refurbishment project in the heart of London. Now he has his sights set on chartership with the IStructE; a goal he is steadily working towards every day.

The ‘eureka’ moment of finding a solution to a unique engineering problem is my favourite part of the job. When we’re outside of our comfort zone and forced to think outside of the box is oftentimes when the most innovative solutions are born.
