This new Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) development comprises circa 1,000,000 sq. ft of warehouse space and associated external infrastructure. The warehouse includes high (37m to haunch), medium (22m to haunch) and low bay constructions, with the internal space being occupied by a cold store but predominantly a sophisticated, fully automated racking and picking system.
To ensure this performs to its optimum, very high post-construction settlement tolerances were required for the floor slabs. This meant that a piled suspended slab solution was required. Given our expertise in the design of such slabs, the client selected Fairhurst to complete these designs rather than take the more traditional route of utilising a contractor-designed solution.
Fairhurst provided all geotechnical advice and site attendance to see that the earthworks were completed in accordance with the design specification. SuDS features such as open swales were incorporated into the design and were designed with enhancements to provide ecological and attenuation benefits to the site and the wider area.
