Fairhurst were initially commissioned to prepare a planning appraisal for the potential development at a site at Powis Place, Aberdeen for 6-storey, 196 student bed spaces. As a result of the planning appraisal, Alumno progressed with the purchase of the site and Fairhurst were subsequently instructed to provide a multi-disciplined consultancy role for the development.
Fairhurst provided planning, landscape architecture, civil and structural input to gain planning permission and to develop tender and construction information.
As the site is in a constrained city centre location, key design considerations related to gaining DDA compliant access to the building from the public highway as well as unique design proposals for the podium level external courtyard space which offer an attractive setting for student use. Landscape architects, civil and structural engineers worked closely to ensure this space functioned engineering wise, whilst making it an aesthetically pleasing. Fairhurst’s approach across multiple disciplines ensured a successful development for the client.
