This project included a £14.2M retail development for Tesco Stores Ltd delivering 110,000 sq.ft (gross) retail space and a petrol filling station for Tesco as anchor tenant for a wider town centre regeneration scheme incorporating 325,000 sq.ft of retail space. The site was located in Port Glasgow, which is on the banks of the River Clyde in Scotland.
Fairhurst was employed as the lead civil, structural and geo-environmental engineering consultant and planning supervisor (Pre CDM 2007) for the project and was involved from feasibility/acquisition through to full construction.
The developed site was a former shipbuilding area, which required significant remediation, demolition, re-profiling and a major trunk road (A8) diversion as advance enabling works to deliver the development site. Fairhurst provided specialist design input and advice in order to overcome the significant issues on this highly constrained brownfield site, including the discharge of onerous planning conditions.
