Fairhurst were commissioned by Willmott Dixon Construction on this project, which was procured through the Scape Framework. ‘The Seam’ is Barnsley’s Digital Campus and the project involved the creation of a new urban park and public realm development that positions the town as a forward-thinking hub for creative innovation and digital technology.
Fairhurst provided multi-disciplinary services on this scheme, including civil, structural, geo-environmental and transport planning. The site was to be transformed from an existing large town square public car park into a 4,700 square metre urban park, three landmark Yorkshire Rose sculptures and high-quality landscaped gardens. The 3 Yorkshire Roses, which distinctly resemble the Gardens by the Bay sculptures in Singapore, stand between 40-50ft and are located at the centre of the new public realm plaza, surrounded by biodiversity and digital gardens. The development also includes a new 286 space public car park area with EV charging.
Fairhurst commission included the design of the proposed levels for the site, along with the new below ground drainage / external works. Also included was the detailed design of the foundations for the large Yorkshire Rose sculptures.
