The funded program by Network Rail encompassed Todmorden Station in West Yorkshire, requiring step-free access to both platforms from the station entrance and ticket office. The project included the installation of new lift shafts with variable pedestrian entry levels.
Fairhurst were appointed to provide civil and structural design services and technical sign off for new station lifts to provide access to an existing underpass. The scheme had been developed to GRIP Stage 4 following our initial design input this was demonstrated to be unviable. Fairhurst redesigned the technical proposal to gain appropriate Network Rail approval. Particular issues which were resolved included poor drainage, interface with historical structures, land boundary constraints and variable entry levels to be new lift shafts. The design included a traditional foundation with a “top down” construction to the below ground shaft. A traditional clad frame was applied at gourd level.
