This year’s theme: Our Power, Our Planet, speaks to both the energy we generate and the responsibility we share. As Earth Day reminds us, “clean air, safe water, and climate resilience aren’t optional—they’re essential.” Achieving these means delivering infrastructure that is not only low‑carbon, but also resilient, safe, and built to last.

Across the north of Scotland, strategic investment in energy infrastructure is helping connect growing onshore and offshore renewables to the places they are needed most.

Projects like the Spittal to Peterhead Subsea Cable Link will form a critical part of the UK’s transition to a secure, clean energy future, strengthening energy reliability and supporting Net Zero goals.

As civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers, we play our part by transforming these plans into resilient solutions, carefully considering ground conditions, structural performance, and long‑term safety. Our role is to help reduce risk, conserve resources, and deliver energy infrastructure that makes economic sense while protecting people and the environment.

As part of our work on this project, Fairhurst are delighted to have provided a full range of engineering services on the project, along with the preparation of planning applications for a number of the construction access points.

Earth Day reminds us that progress happens when engineering expertise, environmental responsibility, and collective action, from us and all our partners, come together.
